Best Vet Schools in the World 2024

Posted by

Welcome onboard today, lets talk about the best Vet Schools in the World. Pet animals are deserving of all the love and attention they can receive. When they become ill, though, they require medical attention. You can even learn to become a veterinary doctor if you are interested in caring for these animals.

The annual QS World University Ranking by Subjects for 2024 is now available, and we’ve created a list of the 17 best vet schools in the world for 2024.

This list was compiled to aid students in their search for the best vet colleges to attend.

The list includes institutions from North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom, as well as world-class universities from throughout the world.

Every year, students search the internet for the best veterinary colleges in the globe, and we hope that our list will aid you in your academic pursuits.

Is Vet School harder than Med School?

Hold on a bit, before we continue to the full list of best Vet Schools in the World, lets get to compare and know the easiest to learn between MED and VET. In recent years, getting into vet school has become slightly more difficult than getting into medical school.

The common thinking — notably among the veterinary community — holds that getting into veterinary school is more difficult than getting into medical school.

But curious minds want to know: Does getting into a veterinarian doctorate school truly need more mojo?

I felt compelled to provide you with a two-part response: Of course, it’s more difficult! However, all things being equal, this isn’t the case.

Veterinary doctors, on the other hand, learn a broader but shallower field (until they specialise), while human doctors learn a narrower but deeper subject.

What You’ll Need for Veterinary School

No professional programme expects more of its students in the future. Keep in mind that the prerequisites listed below, courtesy of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, differ slightly from one school to the next. As a result, it isn’t precise.

For admission, all veterinary schools require 45 to 90 semester hours of undergraduate coursework. 40 to 60 hours seems to be the norm for medical schools.

Pre-veterinary courses are essentially the same as the requirements for medical school, which include:

  1. general biology,
  2. genetics,
  3. cell biology,
  4. microbiology,
  5. calculus,
  6. organic and inorganic chemistry,
  7. physics,
  8. biochemistry, and
  9. a combination of basic human science courses.

Prospective veterinarians are also lecturers as part of the programme.

  1. animal biology,
  2. animal nutrition,
  3. animal feed science,
  4. vertebrate embryology,
  5. zoology, and
  6. physiology.

Veterinary colleges have varying requirements, but medical schools just require the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).

Approximately 78 percent require the Graduate Registration Exam (GRE), 15% the Veterinary College Entrance Test (VCAT), and 7% the MCAT.

A specified number of hours of employment in close contact with animals in a veterinarian or zoological practise, animal, or laboratory is required for all veterinary programmes. Before a candidate may qualify, many of them require hundreds of hours of experience.

In human medicine, on the other hand, there is no such requirement, even if it is undeniable and extremely advantageous for applicants to present equivalent credentials.

But here’s the thing: acceptance rates for medical school programmes are really high. Only 9% of medical school candidates were accepted in 2010, according to US News and World Report.

So, how does this compare to the percentage of vets who accept your application? In the United States, there are 28 veterinary colleges, and I was able to get acceptance rates for around 10 of them in 2010.

Acceptance percentages range from 6.8% to 34.9 percent, giving me the sense that the admission rate for veterinary programmes is greater (and less competitive) on average than for conventional medical programmes.
