My interactions with frat boys span the gamut of figuring out what kind of person they are, whether it’s someone I met in class, at a frat party, or who lives on my floor. While I’m sure that being in a fraternity brings out certain personalities and qualities, my research revealed that there are some stereotypes that are accurate for the vast majority of fraternities.

1. The Legend
This frat guy is all the talk of the town in the true sense. He is always having a great time at every party you go to. This man is legendary. You hear about all the crazy things this guy does, like his 24-hour keg challenge, swimming in the middle of the river in the dead of winter, and his first-year relationship with a senior girl.
Every girl wants to ask him out on a formal date, but nobody has the confidence to do so. The strange thing is that you have never really seen the guy, even though you have heard all these crazy stories about him. If he is an illusion, which he might be, he’s a pretty bad one.

2. The Einstein
One of the types of frat guys you meet when you join a sorority is the Einstein. You are convinced that this frat boy was admitted solely to improve the GPA of the chapter as a whole. He gets the answers all the time and sits behind you in your macro class. He passed the midterm, in fact, so it’s likely that he did. He is the one you can always rely on to help you “study” for the upcoming exam and to provide you with the answers to any homework you may have forgotten.
3. The Sister
The sister is among the types of frat guys you meet when you join a sorority. This fraternity guy is not so much a member of his own fraternity as he is of your sorority. He attends all of your walks, cookouts, and ice cream socials. He always makes a donation to the charity you are sponsoring that year, and he even offers assistance if necessary (hey, mascot). It’s true—you adore this guy. Although he may occasionally irritate you, he is always there for you when you need him.
4. The Vineyard Vines guy
Among the types of frat guys you meet when you join a sorority is the vineyard vines guy. This man is the epitome of what it means to be a fraternity guy—a stereotypical frat boy. He wears his Vineyard Vines hat and custom-made letters with pride, and you never see him without his Sperrys.
Pink is probably in his top five favorite colors, and he looks better in it than most girls you know. Although he can down beer like a horse (keg stands for days), he is the first to request a Catalina Wine mixer whenever they are offered. He undoubtedly loves both his fraternity and America.

5. The Meathead
Do you even lift anything? He is the one who is constantly at the gym, attempting to convince his brothers to join him there in order to shed those beer guts. He has the nicest butt, and his shirts barely fit his arms (not that it matters). He’s finding that the squats are really beneficial. It’s likely that you can locate him at the gym if you can’t find him at home.
6. The Jerk
This is the guy that we have all encountered at some point. He’s kind of cute, but he’s also kind of cruel. He has a great sense of how to irritate people, and he does it quite effectively. Make every effort to avoid this man.
7. The Heartbreaker (aka Zac Efron in “Neighbors”)
This is one of the types of frat guys you meet when you join a sorority. He is very attractive, very handsome (swoon), and very sweet. He has an amazing body and just the right amount of charm. He is hilarious and brings back those butterflies in your stomach from your high school crush, “OMG he is so cute.
The reason he is so dangerous is that he is so likeable. He’s the kind of man who floats around like a seductive dream—he can never be pinned down. You hate that you love him and you love to hate him.

8. The Shadow
The last on our types of frat guys you meet when you join a sorority is the shadow. Alright, how on earth did this guy enter at all? He is merely a shadow on the wall; he is an enigma. You never really notice him, but he frequently attends events.
He simply goes from group to group doing what he does. Though he never seems to bother anyone, he never really stays around for long. Though he seems nice in an odd way, you’re not sure how to feel about him. Even though he may not be as socially compatible as the other brothers, he doesn’t seem to care.
